Question Firefox 2.0.0.2 on Ubuntu closing unexpectedly.

Hello,

I have recently installed Ubuntu 'Breezy' on a Sony Vaio PCG-X200 and it works great. I'm currently trying to get Firefox 2.0.0.2 to work on it, since I'm a relatively new Linux user.

I installed Firefox with the given instructions on the website (Moving the folder to /usr/local/bin with root then making a shortcut) and it wouldn't open. After installing the libstdc++ library, I got it to work fine.

Now, when I have been browsing for a few minutes, it will unexpectedly close. I have opened firefox directly from Terminal and come up with this error on exit:

Code:
./usr/local/bin/firefox/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  8389 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
Please help, it is very irritating.

Hmm..have you checked if there's a bug filed about that?

Another things: Breezy is becoming "old" already, there are newer ones around, the newest being Edgy (6.10), and second-newest Dapper (6.06) which has LTS (Long Term Support). I encourage you to update to Edgy if you can (if you've got a fresh install, it might be easiest to back up existing data and just do a fresh install; for future upgrades I also encourage you to partition manually and create a separate /home partition, which enables you to switch distributions for example without losing personal data), it's newer and probably better. It also comes with Firefox -- the version you installed -- right out of the box, so you don't have to hazzle with Mozilla install instructions - just use apt (or Synaptic, the graphical tool) to install it from the reposity. It's also easier to have it up-to-date that way.

I haven't noticed crashes or sudden closings on that Firefox version on Ubuntu, but the version of Ubuntu I did it on was Edgy, and Firefox was installed from the reposities using apt, not from Mozilla directly.

Yeah, this is a fresh install. I probably should update, haha.

Thanks for the help though, I think I'll do that.
