Question Fine tuning Firefox

Hey gang,

Okay, it's been a while since I asked one, so here goes...

I use Firefox 7x, in the about : plugins page, it says plugin 1.7.0, it claims to be "The next generation Java plug-in for Mozilla browsers.", yeah sure.

As described in the guide, you're supposed to make a symlink to the desired plugin...but Firefox ignores that.

How to I make Firefox use the plugin I want it to use? After all, this is Linux, freedom of choice...plugins included...

I'm ever so tempted to edit the pliuginreg.dat...but, is that clever?

Thanks for some help

Thor

Do you still have the old plugin in the directory? Does it work if you move it out? Just guessing, here...

Actually 1.7.0 is the current version if you are using Openjdk and the icedtea-plugin.

$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_147-icedtea"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.0) (7~b147-2.0-1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 21.0-b17, mixed mode, sharing)

Ehrm...I should have posted this before:

Quote:
java version "1.7.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0-b147)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 21.0-b17, mixed mode)
And, yes if I move/rename the link, the applets still start, so the "mustard sits in an other jar"...and it's the location of that "jar" I'm after...

This is what about : config has to say about it, but that is not being used...
Quote:
java.java_plugin_library_name;javaplugin_oji
The symlink points to the right lib, though...

Quote:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 53 May 30 06:37 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /opt/jre1.6.0_21/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
But, I do use Firefox 7.x, maybe there's some other approarch taken towards plugins...

Well, it's solved in that I've installed JDK 7u1, and everything works, or at least gives the impression to do so...and not solved in that I still dont know how to tame Firefox, if that's at all possible...
Edit - thanks everyone!!!
