Finding your computer ipaddress

Hi,

yank is a web site that automatically detects and displays your computer's IP address. This can be helpful for configuring a computer on a network, setting up communications software, or troubleshooting an Internet connection. Your Internet Service Provider or IT help desk may ask you to visit this site when you're having problems with your Internet connection

yank

Thanks

there are loads of web pages that do this and unless you are behind a router you can do the same in linux via the ifconfig command. mind you you need to be root to run that command, but other then that its no big deal. if you are behind a router, then you just read your router and it too will tell you your WAN IP.

Actually, in most cases, you can run ifconfig as a user, without any changing parameters (i.e. /sbin/ifconfig eth0 will display the current configuration of your first network controller).

You do need to be root to change any network settings, or to use utilities like traceroute.
