Finding a freelance developer

Hi, I have a program written in Linux fedora release 16 which I need customised to suit a project I am working on.
Can you suggest the best way to find a freelance developer who would be able to and prepared to do some work with an honest promise of payment once the project goes live.
I am in the process starting up however all cash is being used on hardware to get the product out to a retail chain of 50 stores in the uk.
Any advice gratefully received.

There is the LQ Job Marketplace but it'll cost you to place your job ad. Contact Jeremy if you're interested. Else search the 'net for simple terms like "freelance wanted". It isn't exactly like there are no places where you can post your job ad.

In business promises don't pay. That's why there are contracts.

What unSpawn said...
As far as UK goes, there are plenty of Contractor agencies; probably safer than a random guy off the net, unless you can get a personal recommendation.
Maybe try a LUG http://lug.org.uk/
