final fantasy 8 for pc

i got a copy of FF8 for the pc recently. when i wine FF8Config.exe, it bitches that it can't open /dev/mixer1 and that i don't have a directsound compatible soundcard.
first of all, i want to know how i can just foward all data from /dev/mixer1 to /dev/null so that i can atleast get the graphics running. then i'll worry about sound

anyway, anyone else have any experience with wining FF8? i checked out appdb.winehq.com but found next to nothing for both FF8 and FF7. =/

Probably because no one tries to run a game as complicated and FF8 or FF7 on wine... its just... well, really complicated? And wine isnt up to supporting all the fancy features and code yet. Give it a few years.. or check in with Transgaming's WineX
