Filesystem won't mount during boot

I am running SUSE ES 8 and the /var (/dev/sda7) filesystem no longer mounts during boot up. Once it is up, I can login and mount the filesystem just fine. Even fsck says that it is clean.

What is going on?

Thanks
Mark

Gremlins....
Or what the space people used to call the "Great Galactic Ghoul"

The reality is that cosmic rays can sometimes flip bits, as can power surges and various operator-induced effects.
