File /var/log/maillog too big.

Dear Linux experts,

Currently, I am having problem with the log of mail.
I am using sendmail as the MTA and I just found out that
the file /var/log/maillog is about 1.5 Gb big.
The reason I have to reduce this file is the hard drive is
getting out of space.
Using RedHat 7.x ( I dont know the exact version ).
Hard Disc : 4GB SCSI.

Is it safe to truncate this file ?
or Is there any safe procedure to reduce it's size ?

Thank you in advance.
