To find the title that you want
Code:
lsdvd /dev/sr0
Then dump it to file. You'll need libdvdcss installed
Code:
mplayer dvd://1 -dumpstream -dumpfile MyVid.vob
or mpv, starts at 0 not 1
Code:
mpv dvd://0 --stream-dump=MyVid.vob
Then use ffmpeg to do whatever you want with it.
Search LQ, this has been talked about lots. Older posts, DVD's not so popular anymore as they were.

i'd just use ffmpeg directly, that way you are forced to understand what is happening.

HandBrake-cli

a script I am using for re-sampling but HandBreak also does dvd's.
Code:
#!/bin/bash

#
# Change this to specify a different handbrake preset. You can list them by running: "HandBrakeCLI --preset-list"
#

if [[ -d "/run/media/userx/4TB_esaystore/Queue.HandBreak" ]] ;
then
{
#Slackware paths
SRC="/run/media/userx/4TB_esaystore/Queue.HandBreak"
DEST="/run/media/userx/4TB_esaystore/MOVIES"
}
else
{
#Peppermint Paths
SRC="/media/userx/4TB_esaystore/Queue.HandBreak"
DEST="/media/userx/4TB_esaystore/MOVIES"
}
fi

keep_old=/media/data/old_movies
OPTIONS="--loose-anamorphic  --loose-crop"
WIDTH="--maxWidth 720"
DEST_EXT=mp4
HANDBRAKE_CLI=HandBrakeCLI
PRESET="Very Fast 480p30"

count="$(find "$SRC" -type f -name "*.*" | wc -l)"

for F in "$SRC"/*
do
    echo

    echo

    filename=$(basename "$F")
    path=${F%*/}
    echo "$path"
    echo
    extension=${filename##*.}
    filename=${filename%.*}
    send_to="$DEST"/"$filename"."$DEST_EXT"

   $HANDBRAKE_CLI --preset="$PRESET" -i "$F" -o "$send_to"

   #if blank it does not move old out of directory.
   #[[ -n "$keep_old" ]] && (mkdir -p "$keep_old" ; mv "$F" "$keep_old")
   rm -v "$F"
   echo
   echo "left: $((count--))"
   echo

done
