ffmpeg screen capture - keep getting "unknown input format"

Code:
# uname -a
Linux myserver 4.9.67-calculate #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 5 12:10:57 UTC 2017 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor Authentic AMD GNU/Linux
Using Calculate Linux which is built on Gentoo. Trying to capture screen. Keep getting "unknown input format."

Have tried the following.

Code:
# ffmpeg -video_size 1024x768 -framerate 25 -f x11grab -i :0.0+100,200 -f pulse -ac 2 -i default out.mkv

# ffmpeg -f xcbgrab -r 25 -s cif -i :0.0 out.mpeg

# ffmpeg -f gdigrab -framerate 10 -i desktop out.mpeg

Give it something to put in ffmpeg -video_size 1024x768 -framerate 25 -f x11grab -i :0.0+100,200 -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0 output.mkv

ffmpeg -video_size 1024x768 -framerate 25 -f xcbgrab -i :0.0+100,200 -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0 output.mkv

Code:
FPS=5; avconv -f alsa -i default -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r:v $FPS -draw_mouse 1 \
 -i :0.0+0,0 -r:v $FPS -aspect 16:9 -pix_fmt yuv444p -async 1 \
 -codec:a pcm_s16le -codec:v libx264 -pre:v lossless_ultrafast \
 -filter_complex "asyncts=compensate=1:min_delta=0.1:max_comp=500:first_pts=0" \
 -y CAPTURE.mp4
What I tend to use for capture. Where avconv is a fork of ffmpeg and should mostly be the same syntax. Most of the async and filter stuff is to maintain audio/video sync. The pix_fmt so that yellows look yellow, not creame-ish colored. The -pre:v is probably not valid and could be omitted these days.

I think most of your issue is putting the specs before the -f portion that relates. The sequence of parameters matters when it comes to ffmpeg.

I learn FFMPEG all command line and all the stuff you could do with it. As far as editing and capturing.
I had a note book thick of command line cheat sheet. everything from transparency etc etc and fading.
Thank god kdenlive put FFMPEG as the back bone of it's rendering tool. Made my life easy.

simple SimpleScreeenRecorder made my life so easy using JACKED .
I even keep a custom build for it. Builds for gaming 32 and 64 bit for slackware. For people that run multi-arch sytems like Slackware building 32bit first then building the 64 bit second to creat links to the main 64 bit outputs. Tools are fun.

I was able to get SimpleScreeenRecorder working. I would still like to understand some ffmpeg.

I have kdenlive installed. I did not know that could record screens.
