ffmpeg on lenny

Why does ffmpeg depend on libfreetype6? I can't imagine what the connection might be.

"The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ffmpeg: Depends: libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5) but 2.2.1-6 is to be installed
E: Broken packages"

I really like Lenny as it gets me a lot closer to version levels other distributions are running. This is a small price to pay but I don't see the connection.

Perhaps it has to with subtitles don't really have a clue for sure though but what I wanted to say here is you are not fully upgraded to Lenny or you would have that version of libfreetype6 installed. So you would want to make sure that you have nothing but lenny or testing your sources.list then apt-get dist-upgrade or use aptitude to do it whichever you are using at the moment then the ffmpeg will install. BTW you will want to make sure the X server gets restarted after the upgrade to be using the new libfreetype.

Code:
apt-cache policy libfreetype6
libfreetype6:
  Installed: 2.3.5-1+b1
  Candidate: 2.3.5-1+b1
  Version table:
 *** 2.3.5-1+b1 0
        990 http://ftp2.de.debian.org testing/main Packages
        600 http://ftp2.de.debian.org sid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

.... so I changed my sources.list file from:

deb http://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ lenny main
deb-src http://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ lenny main

to:

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ lenny main

... did an "apt-get update", "apt-get upgrade", and 89 packages were upgraded, including libfreetype6.

ffmpeg streamed right in.

Thank you very much, HappyTux.
