Fetchmail hangs getting mail

Hi,

I have reinstalled my OS ( Gentoo ) installed Fetchmail and copied my .fetchmailrc from my backup and back to my users home folder.

When I run fetchmail manually it looks like its downloading my mail but it just sits there and never ends. It almost looks like its downloading a huge attachment when infact its not.

There was a post I read about using chmod my /var/spool/mail folder which I tried and did not work.

Anyone have an idea to corrent this problem?

Thank you,

Gnarg

You could add a line at the beginning of .fetchmailrc :

set logfile "~/.fetchmaillog"

and see what the logfile tells you.

No Log was created

Hi Jib2,

I tried as you suggested but no log was created since the application really did not finish. In order for me to stop CTRL+C has to be used to stop it from being stuck.

If this helps, I have postfix installed as well...

The culprit is Postfix not fetchmail

I've been doing more research and found that the problem is not fetchmail but looks like its postfix. Right now Postfix does not send mail to my local users so if I can get Postfix set up correctly again fetchmail should work. I'll have to figure out how to correctly configure postfix again.

<SOLVED> issue was postfix not Fetchmail

Well I now know the the problem is Postfix. Once I set up postfix correctly, fetchmail is able to grab the mails properly and stop hanging.
