festival question #2 (not related to #1)

i was just trying to get festival-gaim to use the mborla voices (still wont, and i have no clue why) when i decided i want to see if i could edit the init scripts for Gentoo to use festival to tell you what its doing as it boots up (just for a little laugh)

but 1 question: how can i get festival to talk without reading from a file (i want to pass a string to it instead i think.... your do you guys think it would be best to use different files for different stuff, so editing would probably be easier?)
