Fedora NVidia driver and crashing problems.
 

I have a rather annoying problem with the Fedora Linux drivers.

I followed the NVidia instructions to install the drivers in runlevel 3, and when I switched back to runlevel 5 everything worked fine. It's only when I rebooted that I had a problem. As soon as the graphical boot would have started, a bunch of garbled ascii junk that I've learned to interpret as video failure. I've done this twice and the failure point is definately right after I reboot.

Did you edit your XF86Config file?

I did edit my X86Config to remove "DRI" or "GLcore" and replace "nv" with "nvidia", and it actually worked the first time. When I typed telinit 5 the nvidia splash screen came up and I was able to use glxgears and mplayer ran fine. It was only when I rebooted that the screen became garbled. After that I googled around to find the answer and found a couple different methods of installing the drivers.. one from RPM that landed me in a depenency loop, one suggesting a slightly different method of installing the drivers that I tried, and one suggesting that I alter a couple more config files and change around some 'aliases'. I tried all of this but it didn't work. After I posted this I found a post about someone who had the same problem and corrected it by changing a line in another config file. Unfortunately I bookmarked the page on my linux box before I decided to run yum update. I updated everything and my computer started hanging after 'enabling swap space'. So before I can even worry about video drivers I need to find out what updates are safe to use. It's going to be a long day ;).
