Fedora machine won't boot, libglib missing...
I hope somebody can help,
No sure why but my Fedora Core 4 machine refused to boot properly the other day. It came up with an error message saying that libglib.so (or something similar, I am posting from work due to a non functioning machine at home....)
I have tried to boot from a live CD (Knoppix) but because I have two hard drives set up using LVM it doesn't recognise the drives.
I booted from the FC4 DVD and entered rescue mode and tried to reinstall the glib rpm but that failed as well.
Question is where to from here.
Can I repair the damage from the rescue console ?
If I need to reinstall whats the best way to get my data off which is located on /home and a separate folder /MUSIC ?
Can I just go through the reinstall procedure with the FC4 DVD safe that it won't wipe my /home and /MUSIC folders ?
Should I just bite the bullet and get the FC5 DVD and do an upgrade ?
I have plenty of storage space available on the LAN is needed but would rather not copy 127Gb of data around.
Thanks for any help,
Woppa
