Fedora FTP Servers

Hello, I have tried the vsftp and the pro ftp server that comes with Fedora. I can connect to the server with either. I can upload a picture or a text file but I cannot create a folder.. or transfer a folder to the server. I keep getting a permission error and I cannot figure out how to resolve the issue.

Thanks!
Tom

File permissions are not done on the FTP server configuration but rather on the system level. If you can upload files to directory say "dump", you can't make a directory in that level? What are the permissions of the directory that you are having trouble with?

Are you allowing users to have write permission? For example, my vsftpd.conf has this field:

# Uncomment this to enable any form of FTP write command.
write_enable=YES

is this something new that must be done? I never had to do it before. Normally the default install just worked.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to at least look at the configuration file of a service (like FTP) that you're trying to use. Never trust on the default configuration. Most defaults are designed for security and are thus very strict permission-wise ... which is supposed to make you take a look at the configuration and think about it for a second before you open up your machine to all kinds of attacks.
