Fedora Core 4 - No mpg video player???

So I just downloaded and installed FC4. I chose to install all packages, and after it was done there is no video player that will play a simple .mpg file. how can this be. I did a full update with
# yum -y update
after setting up my repos.

Still doesn't work. Totem and some other players don't understand the format.
Isn't mpg one of the most common video formats out there?

I'm no multimedia guru, but ifyou have any ideas, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

from what I just read in "The Linux Bible", it is rare to find video players in
most formal distributions. because of legal complications.

This same book suggests that you check <xine.sourceforge.net> as one player available.

For video players like Xine and Mplayer, you can get codecs here and then put them in /usr/local/lib/codecs/ or /usr/lib/win32/ (I'm not sure which).

Thanks for your help. After reading the video tutorial on this site, I checked out mplayer. It was easy to install after verifying the requirments were fulfilled.

thanks again.
