Fedora Core 3 not booting after update
Anyone else having problems getting Fedora Core 3 to boot after doing a full update? Everything runs fine after the installation, but when I go to reboot after updating, it stops right where the boot status screen would show up. It starts initializing the USB devices and then the whole system locks. I have no idea what's going on...
--edit-- All USB devices unplugged, no difference. With either the stock kernel or the updated one either. |
I had a similar thing when installing FC3 with a USB card reader attached. Install hung waiting for USB init. SImple remedy I found was to insert any old card in the reader, then it came up fine.

did you boot with a different kernal then useall?

After the update, neither the kernel that comes with the FC3 ISO's nor the updated one would work. I completely unplugged the reader, though, and it still wouldn't boot. Gonna keep trying.
--edit-- Everything except my USB mouse unplugged and nothing. USB devices plugged in and memory card in the reader, nothing. It seems to lock up precisely at the moment that the boot status screen would show up. |
It's got to be X. I found a way to get Fedora to go into single-user mode from the grub loader and edited my inittab to start in run level 3. Fedora booted just fine. If I teleinit to runlevel 5 it locks up. If I try to do a "startx", it locks up. It never gives me a chance to even see an error before the whole system hangs. What's going on?

There's got to be another radeon user out there having similar problems...
--edit-- Nevermind. Installed ATI's Linux drivers (which is a lot easier than it used to be) and everything works great now. Someone ought to look into the included "radeon" driver, though. |
Grub dead
I upgraded with up2date and grub dies on boot. Just goes Grub and nothing else happens. 2.6.10-1.766 is latest kernel shown in grub.conf. I putfallback in and it didn't help.
