Question Fedora Core 3 Firefox Crashes With Java 1.5 and 1.4.2_06

After installing FC3 on a VmWare window the java worked propertly, after seeing that I liked the OS I installed it on a clean HDD and then for some reason Firefox crashes with the java plugin installed, when ever there is an applet it crashes. I have tried installing Firefox via yum to make sure that it wasn't an error in the installation but the same happens. I downloaded the file from mozilla.org but for some reason libstdc++ won't allow firefox-installer to work. Does anyone know why this happens?

I had the same problem when I created a symbolic link to the wrong plugin.

For Java 1.5.0 it should be in the ns7 directory.
Type the following from the Firefox plugin directory:
Code:
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
For Java 1.4.2 it should be in the ns6-gcc directory.

ns7???

I have read about this directory when I install java 1.5 the only directories I get are ns4, ns610, and ns610-gcc32 which for me the first time it worked when I had the core on a vmware. But now after installing 1.4.2_06 and using the ns610-gcc32 firefox starts up but it crashes and suddenly exits on anything that requires the plugins' use.

I am not sure why you are missing the ns7 directory because I have it when I installed java 1.5

If the ns6-gcc does not work for java 1.4 try the other plugins

Talking

I also had problems until I linked to the ns7 directory as you have detailed above. My Java applets start to load and everything looks great but it takes a long time and makes my browser (Mozilla Firefox 1.0) freeze. Any further ideas? Thanks
