fedora 11 sound issue

ok so i installed fedora 11 recently and the sound was not working, it could be a possible driver issue but im not sure. I made sure it wasnt hardware cause I dual boot and logged onto windows the sound is fine. i was wondering if anyone could help me cause I dont really know how i go about fixing this. I have a HP pavilion dv5-1002nr laptop

thanks for the help

Hi there

Open the volume control panel, and look for a setting called optical out, or digital out. Play with switching them between on and off state, and also turn up all the output volume sliders.

Same happened with me when I installed Fedora 11. Spent half an hour finding this out, and then half an hour beating myself for not thinking of it earlier.

This is what I did to hear some sound with Fedora 11: I ran the command:

alsamixer -D hw:0

Using the right arrow -> cycled through all the sliders making sure
all levels were up, finally got to a Speaker slider which for some
reason was off. I enabled it, pressed ESC, and tried playing
Internet audio again, voila! Sound works. It is suppose to work
without user intervention but after a few rpm updates, it seems to
have set the speaker output to off or reverts to Null audio output.

I have P4R800-V Deluxe with AD1888 sound card. In Fedora 11, alsamixer does show the ICE958, and it is at the maximum level. However, I have no sound. In Fedora 10, the optical sound is working. I already tried the mentioned options above, still no luck.
