fdisk in vmware
 

i am adding a slack9 virtual machine. I put the install cd in, started it up, i went thru and logged in as root. Now i have to set up my disk parts. How do i do this? When i run cfdisk it says its cannot open disk drive.

does anyone run linux in vmware?

when i run fdisk it will only let me do it on /dev/hdc and then it says that it is not writeable. How do i set this up? should i be trying a scsi drive? I think i tried /dev/sda and sdb and sdc but it said those were no such file or dir.

This is dumb people. Some of us just can't wipe our drives and put linux as our main OS, would we like too, YES, can we NO. Take me for example, i run control systems software that forces me to use windows so if i want linux i have to do it in a virtual machine. My work wont let me wipe it and try it the other way. It is my only option!
Is it slower that way, yes do i care, no why because i want some linux i can switch over too and something is better than nothing.

with that in mind i post this

at least in slackware 9 (i know in red hat and mandrake it does it for you) and probably gentoo since this is a issue i was having with it also and nobody answered me on their boards either.
Start up your machine with the slack cd in.
when it gets to that first prompt type buslogic.s if this doesn't work type scsi.s
then hit enter.
now vmware or linux whatever will allow you to run cfdisk which is a nice easy disk manager where you can set up your partitions.
Now that your parts are set up just type setup
this will get u to the nice gui type thing that allows you to finish installing slackware.

I have been trying to figure this out forever. Finally i just started trying sh*T. I figured if i screw it up i can just delete the vmware file and start over or shut down and start over.

Anyway, there it is for all the people who dont care that it runs slower with M$ as the host and just need some dang linux.

i know some of u crackheads viewing this post knew that that i just posted too.

So shame shame shame.
