fc6 package manager repo not found
 

I am currently running fedora core 6 and when I try to run yum or the package manager(which appears to be running through yum) I get a message that it cannot find the baseurl for repos. I have opened the config files in /etc/yum.repos.d and tried to navigate to the urls for the differnt repos there isn't anything in the folder so it would appear that the xml files it's looking for are not where it expects to find them. Have the repo locations begin moved and therefore I need to update the yum config files? If so can I point to one of the newer distro's repo locations?

Fedora 6 has been discontinued. You can find a README file in place of the old fedora repositories:

fedora 6 is WAY PAST it's END OF LIFE
unless there is a VERY , and i do mean a VERY GOOD reason , ( like my computer class/prof requires it )
please install fedora 10 or 11
but if fedora 6 IS mandatory then see this help page

First of all, thanks for the help I really appreciate it and the advice. However, I am real nervous about updating from fc6 to fc7 because I don't want to mess anything up. I have setup a server which my group depends on being available and I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize that. I would really appreciate any thoughts are the possible effects of upgrading or gotchas I should be aware of. Again thank you for your help.

the thing is fedora 6 has had NO SECURITY updates in YEARS so having it run a server is not a good idea . a fresh install of fedora 11 is best

install CentOS 5.3 cent has a 5 year life span , where as fedora has a 13 month life span

Since you're running a group server, you always have a current full backup set from which you can always restore you old system.

So the only mess you could make would be the down-time to restore the system from the backups. So schedule the system upgrade for a time when the rest of your group is not working.

But, really, if you're concerned about stability, Fedora is probably not your best choice. (It has always been a cutting-edge distribution and beta-test platform for Red Hat.) If I were you, I'd "bite the bullet" and switch to John's suggestion of CentOS (which is quite similar to older Fedora releases) or, if you would like a system with actual support (for a fee, of course), consider moving to RHEL. Red Hat would be quite happy to take your money and help you through the conversion.

And an "upgrade" to FC7 from FC6 is just moving from an three year old, unsupported, distribution to an unsupported 2 1/2 year old distribution. What's the point in that?
