FC5, gnome-mount, HAL...??? How is this all configured?!?

My curiosity has besieged me once again!!

In FC4, one simply edited /etc/fstab to change the mount point, permissions, device name, etc. of mountable media, ie. cdrom, DVD, USB drives, etc.

So they went & changed this on us in FC5! How the hell does all this work now??

I'm not saying that it doesn't work, it all works just fine, but I NEED to know HOW it works!!

I have discovered that HAL is now responsible for mounting all removable media, & that one can use the "gnome-mount" app to do the mounting, unmounting & ejecting, but how is this all configured?!?!?!?!

I have googled, checked FC5 release notes, etc. Can find the basics of HOW to use this new way of mounting removable media but this is simply not enough, I just have to know how all this works & is configured.

I read somewhere that it should be configured using "gconf-editor" but I can't find any specifics for this in there.

If anyone out there knows how all this now works & would explain it to me, or can point me to some docs that will, I would be forever grateful!!

Thanks
