i installed xfce 4.2 while i already had xfce 4 installed. mistake? probably. now i have two xfce options to load up in login manager: xfce, & xfce 4.2
the question is, how do i make xfce 4. 2 the default. i tried using the switchdesk utility but that only carries optoins for gnome, xfce, and twm, oh yeah and system defaults. i don't even know what twm is! so i cat'd /etc/sysconfig/desktop and it says:
DESKTOP="GNOME"
what shall i put for xfce 4.2 to be default?
ps: i wonder if twm means "this window manager"... UPDATE: yeah so twm stands for terminal.. still wondering how to figure this out... any help appreciated!
Why not just delete, the old xfce version, install xfce 4.2 rpms meant for Fedora. I am sure this will enable xfce 4.2 to be recognised as a valid desktop.

how do i delete the old one? i tried using add/remove software and an error came up.. is there a way with yum without uninstalling the newer one?
I've just make the same thing as you did...just installed xfce4.2...
and the thing is that every time I was restarting, I had to choose a session (XFCE4.2) because I sick of Gnome...
the thing is that you cannot "switchdesk xfce4" nor "switchdesk xfce4.2"..or any combinations...but you may just simply type "switchdesk xfce"
and the problem is solved..
if you type in a terminal "xfce4-about" you'll see that you have XFCE 4.2.1..
