FC3 install "extras" disk

Recently installed FC3 on a Dell laptop, and at the end of the process it says to use a RHEL "extras" disk for 3rd party software and plug-in support. What is this, as I currently don't have it, and am wondering if this will prevent proper installation of other things, such as browsers. I don't recall RH 8 or 9 needing this.

The RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) extras disk likely contains proprietary software not covered by the [wiki]GPL[/wiki]. You don't need it to have a functional operating system. Some common closed-source software can be freely distributed or is offered at no cost by the authors. You might consider downloading the Java and Flash plugins to enhance the browsers. If you have an nVidia card you can download and install the closed-source driver to get 3D accelerated graphics. I don't know whether Red Hat offers the extras disk for free download, since it appears to be a part of the RHEL distributions.
