fbset will not let me set an xres of 1680

Hi,

when I try "fbset -xres 1680" it says:
ioctl FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument

it will allow me to do "fbset -xres 800", and other standard resolutions... just not 1680, I guess it doesn't know how to handle it?? Is there a way to add this mode?

It is a wide screen LCD with a native resolution of 1680x1050. Whenever I try to use framebuffer in the kernel with vesafb-tng and tell it to use a resolution of "1680x1050@60", it doesn't know how to do this, so it just gives me 1400x1050@60. Not quite what I need

Any know how i can fix this? Thank you!
George
