FATAL: Error inserting ivtv

Hello,

I recently purchased an Hauppauge PVR-500. I installed it on a SuSE 10.0 machine, followed the howto's on the ivtv wiki (very well written, btw) using driver 0.4.2 (compiled from source). It was working fine except the second tuner (/dev/video1) was blurry and pixelated.

I thought I would try a precompiled rpm for the driver (0.3.7.c) to see if that did anything for the second tuner. This is where the problems start. After installing the RPM all I get is this error:

Code:

FATAL: Error inserting ivtv
(/lib/modules/2.6.13-15-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/ivtv.ko): Unknown
symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

So I thought, "Hey I'll just remove the RPM and redo the howto for 0.4.2." I was wrong I get that same exact error. Also tried with 0.4.1 and I get the same thing.

Someone please help, I'm practically going bald from pulling out my hair on this one.

Here is the relevant (but unhelpful) dmesg:

Code:

ivtv: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
ivtv: Unknown symbol video_unregister_device
ivtv: Unknown symbol video_device_alloc
ivtv: Unknown symbol video_register_device
ivtv: Unknown symbol video_usercopy
ivtv: Unknown symbol video_device_release

all right 'baldy' lol, have you done a 'character' search (ie a search for the references of the program INSIDE of files?

i mean, you just need to uninstall EVERY part of the program and recompile the one that was working 'pretty' good at one point, no?

I'm sorry it has taking me so long to respond.

I had a bunch of remaining files from infinite tries at this, and SuSE has released a new kernel. So deleted my whole kernel directory, and installed the new kernel via YaST. That successfully got me back to square one, I went back to compiling 0.4.2 (the that sort of worked), and it is working now.

After some further research it turns out that hauppage's newest 500's have a new Samsung chip, which is only supported by the latest ivtv driver.

Thanks a ton for your help,
