Fat32, Ext2, Swap????
 

Hey everyone, i have a problem with my PC

I installed linux redhat 9 on a partition, all apart from my windows partition, when i start my PC i select linux redhat and no problem but when i select Windows it only says, starting Windows Millenium and then it says that there are some files that are missing, i put my Hard drive on another computer but windows not recognize it. I think its because its another file system windows FAT32, so what can i do to restore it to FAT32 and then try again to install Linux??

No the fs shouldn't matter.

what files does winME say it's missing? You should be able to access the windows partition from linux. ie, download and copy over the files it needs. Otherwise you may have to reinstall windows me.

usuly when you dual boot between linux and windows you have to install linux first then windows for it to work without files getting trashed on the fat partition, as for winme its a screwy os to begin with so i would go to win 2000 or above lol

Thats not true, I find it better to install Windows first, since it will overwrite the MBR, so it saves you some work. Ive never had any problems.


Your problem is probobly that when you resized the FAT32 partition to make room for Linux, you deleted some important files. You should have defraged and scandisked before resizing. Its a dangerous process.
