Fastest terminal client

Hi,

I've used xterm, aterm ,rxvt... xterm is the heaviest on memory... aterm & rxvt are relatively light but not the lightest...

However, some man page displays (e.g. man fvwm, second page) are displayed correctly only on xterm (aterm, rxvt gives some garbled output)...

I'm using FC1...

Anyone knows some really lightweight clients which have the basic functionality of xterm (foreground color, background color, different font display etc.etc...)

Regards,
Soumen

If man pages are not seen correctly in rxvt, there is something wrong in your terminal settings.

In xterm I'm able to see the fvwm manpage clearly (with some important words colored in green)... aterm & rxvt show some weird characters for the same page & the coloring is also not there.

I can live with this since this doesnt happen in every man page... My main concern is the big chunks of memory being used up by xterm, aterm, rxvt (in decreasing order)...

Do we have lightweight & fast equivalents to these programs...?

Thanks for responding.

Hmm..
I installed fvwm to see its manpage. There seems to be nothing wrong with it when viewed in xterm or rxvt. (with xvt the colors are lost).

Is your TERM environment variable set to "rxvt" when you use rxvt? If so, try it with xterm, and vise versa.

xvt is very lightweight; it claims to be even smaller than rxvt (which lacks some of the features that xterm has [mouse wheel support / inline images]).

Thanks ToniT.

I want to give xvt a try. Does it have coloring i.e. would mutli-color syntax highlighting in vim work in xvt... & what about the coloring for ls command output...

Do you have the url for xvt homepage...?

Regards.
