Fast and low cpu consuming mp3 player ?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what is the fastest and low cpu consuming mp3 player that has a gui based? I'm using Amarok on my OpenSuSE. And it seems when i check the cpu utilization it uses 40-50% and sometimes 60% of my CPU without running anything.

For this one is not acceptable. Anyone would like to recommend a better one? with GUI

Regards,

Not sure will this help you, but I use MPlayer for most stuff. It can play almost any format and particularly good at playing Videos.

Thanks SkyEye, so whats the cpu usage of this MPlayer? And how much memory and cpu that it consumes while playing mp3?

Guys, I think XMMS will do for me, works well with me. CPU 1%-2% and 0.4%-0.5% in memory. Gui is same as Winamp. Not sure if the same as XMMS2. But this one will be enough for my requirements. Cheers!

XMMS it's dead, no longer developed (as far as I know). Audacious is its successor. You could try it.

XMMS2 is a total different thing. It's based on the Client-Server model where you have a two different programs running, in fact the server need not to be on the same computer. Anyway, I don't think this is not what you are looking for.

Yeah,.. as sica07 said, Audacious seems to be the mutual successor to XMMS. It supports XMMS skins too.

Note: CPU and Memory usage is highly machine specific. So can't tell exact percentage. Anyway,. MPlayer is a great (IMHO the greatest ;) ) player for Video playback.

re - Audacious

I'm running Audacious on Fedora 16.

(I tried it because of reading this thread.)

And it's playback is less skippy, compared to almost always with the other programs (Rhythmbox, Smplayer, etc) -- when I'm trying to play music and do other stuff at the same time.) (and I have tried several other programs before it).

It's great!
Thanks everyone.

(I did have to separately search for and install the file audacious-plugins-freeworld-mp3-3.0.2-2.fc16.i686.rpm before mp3 playback would work in Audacious, but oh well, that's not that annoying.)
