Fabulous Fonts in Linux

This article at The Register (http://www.theregus.com/content/4/26770.html) talks about getting your fonts to look great in linux. I decided to walk through it and see what I could do. The first hurdle I've run into is a dependancy issue working with rpms. These instructions http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ explain how to build rpms to get it to work. I downloaded everythin, but my GLIBC dependancies for cabextract are wrong. SInce I'm in slackware, I'm not used to working with rpms. Can anybody help? THanks.
