F-Spot, can i add images to catalog from windows partition without copying them?
Hello.
I have a dual boot computer with Ubuntu and windows. Unfortunately, i only have a 60gb hard drive, and windows has all of it except for 10gb. After installing Ubuntu and whatnot, i only have 6.4gb free. Now i have 20gb of photos on the windows partition and want to add them to f-spot, but keep them on that partition.
Right now, when i import them, f-spot wants to copy them to my home directory. Since there isn't enough room for the photos, and cause it makes no sense to have duplicates on the same drive, and because i like to keep the pictures in folders according to their year and month...what should I do?
If i just let f-spot do all the importing and whatnot, they will not be accessible from within windows. Also, they'll be put into seemingly random folders that make no sense when browsing the hard drive.
-Thanks for any help provided.

I didn't have f-spot installed so I just did. When I ran it the first time, the input screen for building the library had a checkbox "Copy files to the Photos folder". Does it still copy files if you uncheck this box when importing photos?

Hmm, that works for a small folder. For some reason it didn't work when i imported my whole picture collection. I'll try it again. We've taken 12k pics over the past 5 years or so, so it takes a few hours to import. I may have just left it clicked in last time...
