Extracting tarball to stdout

Hey... does anyone know how to extract a single file from a tarball to stdout? I do not have enough diskspace to extract a large tarball normally.

I have read the manpage for tar but there isn't anything that would help me there.

Thanks in advance.

Actually, nevermind... mkisofs can't take data from stdin anyway.
