Extracting archives containing long filenames

Hello,

I have a ZIP archive from which I cannot extract certain files. The reason is, presumably, because those filenames are too long. The longest is 183 alphanumeric characters, which, unless I misunderstand, is well within the limitations of ext4; however, I'm unable to create filenames longer than 144 chars.

Using GNOME's Archive Manager (File Roller) 3.6.3, I'm unable to rename the files before extracting. Is there another way to do this?

Thanks!

Not the entire filesystem, but I did elect to encrypt my home directory during installation, yes.

Update: I am able to extract the files outside my home directory. Interesting. Thanks!
