extract ripmime: File size limit exceeded

I'm trying to extract a backup using the following command:

cat dump.* | ripmime -v -d /extractlocation/ -i -

Almost at the end I receive the following error:

Decoding filename=textfile581_1
Decoding filename=textfile582_1
Decoding filename=textfile583_1
File size limit exceeded

The filesize of the last file is 2GB. I think the error is related to the ext3 file system, which only supports 2GB filesizes. Is there any way to extract my backup? Maybe using 'split', and if so what would be the correct command? Converting the file system is not an option, because I'm using a outdated version of RedHat.

The best way to really fix the problem is to reformat the partition using a larger block/cluster size. The file size limit is due to a limit on the maximum number of logical blocks in a file. If you make the logical blocks bigger you can have a larger file. I made the cluster size on an ext2 partition 4096 bytes and I have files that are 30 GB on the ext2 partitions.

The following example show how to do this on /dev/hdb3.
Code:
mkfs -t ext2 -b 4096 /dev/hdb3
or
Code:
mkfs -t ext3 -b 4096 /dev/hdb3
