external usb

Good Morning

I have a external USB driver, when i connected it to linux machine and run the command fdisk -l its giving me the output

/dev/sdc5 2 4864 39062016 7 HPFS/NTFS

And not able to mount , i used the command
#mount /mnt/usbpen/usbc-1

can any one please tell me how can i format the usbdisk on linux machine so that it works both on linux and windows.
PLease send me the steps.

mkdir /mount
mount -t ntfs /dev/sdc5 /mount

however you need ntfs support in your kernel
you could format it to fat in windows.
