EXT3 filesystem blocks and Sector numbers
In EXT3, we have files using blocks. Depending on block size, each block consists of more than 1 sectors. If a file using a block has a filesize which is less than a sector, then does the rest of the block remain empty.

The filesystem allocates (at least), the min num of blocks reqd to store the requested data.
If the reqd data is eg 2049 bytes and you had 1024 byte blocks, then the system will allocate 3 blocks.
(2049 = 1024 + 1024 + 1)
