Exporting from dia and importing into OpenOffice

I have a project where I have a lot of flowcharts to draw. I am using dia to draw these images, but the problem comes when I export them to an external format for use with OO.org writer.

1. I don't want to use any raster formats (bmp, jpg, png etc) because it cannot scale properly and I want to scale the images in the document.

2. OO.org doesn't import from some of the formats that dia exports to. So I am limited to very few choices.

3. Where dia exports properly like eps OO.org is not importing the image properly. Also OO.org doesn't support wpg or svg so that's another problem. OO.org imports from wmf or emf but dia doesn't export to these formats. I tried dxf too, but that dia's dxf export is very poor.

You get the idea. I've experimented with exporting to different formats but none seem to be effective. I don't want to use OO draw because I don't like the interface and dia is an easy to use interface.

So how do I work around this? It's frustrating when none of the formats either export or import correctly, but I want to continue using dia for diagrams and flowcharts so that I can keep them seperate from the document and reuse them as necessary.

Any ideas? I tried xfig, but it's interface is something that doesn't allow quick creation of diagrams and I feel awkward drawing using it. Dia is the easiest to use among the lot but it's export formats are very missing.

BTW, I'm using Debian.

From the dia File menu, click on Plugins... Check to see that the plugins you need for wmf, svg, etc are checked. Then try again.
