Experience with "Alien"

Anyone have any experience with the program called Alien?
It is a package converter.
I installed it on Slackware 9.1 and the first and only package I converted trashed my system.
Anyone have any luck or other experiences with this software?

I use it on debian to convert .RPM's to .DEB's. It works fine for me, but I didn't think that Slackware used .RPM's or .DEB's for package management? From what I remember about my Slackware days wouldn't it just track what you installed via source and its dependencies?

I suppose it could be used for that but im not sure. It also converts RPM to TGZ for slack.
