Exit KDE - need to install NVidia driver

I don't have direct rendering available, which I need to play games under WineX. From what I can determine, I need to update my Nvidia driver. I have a Geforce 2 (32 Mb AGP).

I don't really know what I'm doing. I usually shy away from stuff like this, because I don't want to break my video. However, I really want to play Everquest and Warcraft without booting into Windows.

I found the NVidia driver. In order to install it, I need to exit X and install it from the command line. I have KDE as my default boot option - how do I exit KDE? I am stumped.

Thank you for your help!

Don't be shy :-)

At the lilo prompt, where you can choose failsafe or normal boot and stuff, -Hit escape before linux starts to load.
Type: "Linux 3" and hit return. This will boot you into runlevel 3, before X and kde is started.
Login as root and install the driver, read the instructions on the nvidia web site or search this forum, there are plenty of threads on this.
Good luck!
