I am trying to do something really simple with Exim.
I have two machine connected together via a hub.
They can ping each other.
They each are running openSuse 11.2 and have Exim installed.
On each machine from the command line in start Exim as a daemon by typing: sudo /usr/sbin/exim -bd -d
and each machine runs through some output and sits there "Listening".
Then on either machine I try to send a mail message of the form
mail (or mailx) <user>@<other node>
some text
EOT
and absolutly nothing happens!
I must be doing something wrong or daft which is very basic, but I have searched all over and cannot get it to work.
Can you help?
Can you manually send mail by telneting between the hosts (telnet node 25)? Do you have DNS setup and MX records for the nodes (or at minimum a records)?
I dont have DNS setup, this is a very basic set-up using fixed IP addresses and /etc/hosts.
I got a bit further yesterday by commenting out the line: require verify = sender in the exim config file.
