Evolutions mail store


I would like to take all my mail and contacts - but more so my mail and make a backup as I have some important stuff in there.

I use evolution and I don't know where it keeps the mail i.e. I am after evolutions version of pines ~/mail

sure. No problem!

$cd /$home/user_name/evolution/local

$ls

this will give you a list of the various folders for evo. Like Inbox, Outbox ...etc

if you back up the "local" dir then all mail in those folders would bw saved or you can poke around and only save specific emails.

May i just ask what that "$" is and when is it used for?

I used it 2 ways in my post the first as a notation of a bash prompt like:

$cd or
$ls
just a way to show what should be typed at the prompt. The second way I used it was as a variable. Meaning [ $HOME] as whatever one calls ones home directory. Mostly it is an unnecessary piece of blather but I am in the habit now so...go figure In both cases I am just using it to make my post clearer to the postee...but in this case, if you don't already know those uses it makes it confusing. But of course now you know and we will all expect you do do the same sensless crap - YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED - WE ARE THE BORG! lol
