The principal difference between root and luser is permissions. The other difference is the ~/.evolution folder.

Have you tried renaming ~/.evolution and restarting?

Yes. That had no effect.

I'm not sure if an update broke it, or I had a bad write on my hard drive that caused it to stop working, or little gnomes messed with my computer, but I think that when the rss reader gets updated, I'll be all good. Thanks!
