Evolution Backup problem

I've migrated on of my machine to debian 6.0, as I was having problems with the sample rates on audio apps.
Before migrating I used backup on Evolution 2.32 on Fedora FC15 X86_64

That produce a tarball 1GB.
I checked the tarball was good by loading Evoluton2.32 on to the laptop and restoring. That worked OK.

I'm now running evo 2.30 , debian 6 squeeze , on this machine and it refuses to restore from the tar ball, I've tried from different media .

Any idea how I can some of the mail from that tarball, or from the restoed on my laptop.
Evo has no export function, so I'm stuck

I'd probably try to upgrade to the same version and retry the restore...
