Ever need to write an MS Word document?

Do any of you Linux users ever need to write an MS Word document? I do, but when I try to save in MS Word format on a linux machine the format always gets screwed up.

My experience is that OpenOffice does the best. Abiword can create trivial documents, but any sort of complex formatting is going to go all weird.

Consider saving to RTF format. It might not have all the bells and whistles of a .doc format file, but it's a lot more portable.

I never use MS Word. I write everything with LaTeX. I find its very polyvalent and you can write any kind of document. You need a bit of experience to really exploit all the facets of LaTeX, but it a great tool.

On the other hand, the only time that I use a wordprocessor is when I receive an e-mail with a .doc attachment. Then I know that OpenOffice does a very good job.

Cheers
