ettercap won't search for hosts

I'm using slackware 11 and ettercap NG-0.7.3. I'm connecting to the internet through a wireless router. That wireless router is uplinked to a router/cable modem unit. The router modem is hooked directly into the cable line.

When I try to search for hosts in ettercap, it doesn't do anything. It just sits there.

I open the program with the command:
Code:
ettercap -G
I go to the drop-down menu "Sniff" and select "Unified sniffing"

I select my wifi adapter (wifi0) and continue.

At this point, the console in the bottom part of the window says:
Code:
Listening on wifi0... (802.11)

Privileges dropped to UID 99 GID 99...

  28 plugins
  39 protocol dissectors
  53 ports monitored
7587 mac vendor fingerprint
1698 tcp OS fingerprint
2183 known services
I got to the drop-down "Hosts" and select "Scan for hosts" and it does nothing. Nothing new appears in the console and there seems to be no wifi traffic or "working sounds" coming from the computer.

Am I missing a dependency? Is something not configured correctly? Or could it be how my network is set up?
