Eterm error messages
 

I've already satisfied the dependencies for libast and imlib. Now when I try and install, from the rpm, I get

first message ::
Installation package Eterm-0.2.9 needs meeds 40k on the / filesystem.

I'm new to linux so I figure hey.... it needs 40k to install. It's an older system and the HD is rather small for now, so I didn't seem surprised. After removeing a few files from my download dir, I tried again. I get this ::

installation package Eterm-0.2.9 needs 3MB on the / file system.

Any ideas why this is?

give us
df -k
output, and we will see what can be done

possibly because of compression?

You probably have your file system over more than one partition. It's common to use different partitions for /var, /home, /usr and so on. Like said previously - post the output from df -h (or -k, but -h is nice and easy to read).

Let me enlighten you to my..... latest Linux "lesson in life". About 2 weeks ago, my Win2K Box started freezing up on me. I didn't know the root of this problem, but it continued to escalate as the hours of operation increased. I had been spending a great deal of time in Win2k cause i was trying to complete an application I've been writing for a while. Well this freeze problem made it virtually impossible to even... well do anything. So I shut 'er down, put off my project until I could afford to buy a new processor. (Which was indeed the culprit, she had overheated one 2 many times in the past due to a faulty fan)
I spent the last 2 weeks on Linux. Since I was not using the Win sys, I put my 17" monitor on the Linux box. Man I love Linux.... It just FEELS right.... you know what I mean. I mean, it's finiky, and you really gotta pay attention to every little thing you do, cause one wrong line in one "config" file.... and hell. The computer may not even come back up again. That really makes a noob wanna slap the first living being that knocks at their bedroom door. But once you give it what it wants.... well you guys know... bliss, harmony...

anyway.... I configured RH9.0 to run with A 17" monitor. Now That I have Win back, I rudely took it away from Linux to spoil my 2K child, and now its pissed at. Won't come out and play anymore. When I try and boot up, it gets as far as the "text" pseudo login (The one that displays before you get to the graphical switchDesk login) and then it just blinks a couple times, goes blank a few secs, then comes back to the Text login, and repeats, indefinitely. Never makes it to the Main login screen. It's as if the box is holding a grudge.... I think it may be confused about the different monitor.

Any ideas???

I didn't mean to post a new noob query here, but if anyone has been here before, I'd really be thank full.

Once I satisfy this dilemma then we'll see what eterm has to tell us.

to config X:

you can run these wizards:
XFree86
-configure - produces file called /root/XF86Config.new - it will be a starting point anyway
xf86config
Xconfigurator
XF86Setup - GUI only
xf86cfg - GUI only
or you can manually config the etc/X11/Xf86Config file - not recommended.

the point will be to get a working X no matter how shabby then use the other tools to tweak it.
