Angry ESD Not Dying At Gnome Logout

I seem to be having a problem with ESD not ending when a user logs out of Gnome. This results in the next user logging in not having access to the ESD service as it is locked by the previous session. I have searched google and seen the problem reported several times but there does not appear to be a solution offered.

I can log in a root and kill the ESD daemon, but obviously I don't want the other user to have access to root to be able to do this.

Does anyone know of a fix for this or is there a way I can get Gnome to issue the kill command for ESD during the logoff process?

System Specs
Red Hat 7.2
P3-600
256 Meg RAM
10 Gig HDD
TNT2 Ultra 32 meg video
SB Live Soundcard
CD & CD-RW

Thanks,
Mike
