Errors trying to mount USB Mass Storage Device

Alright, here's what's up... I'm trying to mount a USB Mass Storage device (just installed Slackware 9.1 and trying to get things up and running), but am not having much luck with a few things.

It seems that the device is recognized in the Info Center (KDE's), it shows up as a USB Storade Device and so on, however, I don't think it mounts it for me or anything of the like.

So when I go to mount it (after trying to load modules, editing fstab, so on), I get the error that /dev/sda7 is not a valid block device.

Wil be great to have maybe some steps to know what I need to have installed or configured to get the device up and running...

Trust me I have tried all, but i dont know what could be the problem, as you can see Im new in the Linux world...

Can you see anything relevant in /var/log/messages? Open a terminal and type "tail -f /var/log/messages" then plug it in and see what messages appear. You may need to be root.
Could be your kernel doesn't support that particular device.

Quick question, has the device been formatted? If so, what type of filesystem?
