Errors installing Limewire, MLDonkey, and eDonkey2000

Hi,

I'm having trouble installing filesharing programs, namely Limewire, MLDonkey, and eDonkey2000.

I have Mandriva Linux LE 2005 installed - and I am very new to linux.

When I double click the LimeWireLinux.rpm file it gives me the option to save or install, i click install and then it says: unable to register rpm file. Then another pop up comes and says Package already installed. What does this mean?

When i extract the MLDonkey file to a specified directory and then try compiling without GUI support and try to get mlnet to start by "bash mlnet" and nothing happens.

With eDonkey2000, i extract the compressed file and then in terminal i type bash runDonkey.sh and it gives me the following error:

./edonkey2000: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

When i type bash edonkey2000 it gives me this error:

edonkey2000: edonkey2000: cannot execute binary file

So yea i'm a clueless noob and i would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step method to installing any of these programs. The readmes and install.txt's don't really help me much.

Thanks,

Ismaeel

oh my god i hate limewire... so many questions like this!! ;-) i'd *guess* you're not root when you're trying to install it, so that shouldn't be too hard to get running. as root run "rpm -Uvh /where/ever/the/rpm/is/limewire.rpm" and it should install (although in my experieence you'll have some JRE problems to deal with unless you're lucky)

as for edonkey... erm i *think* there's a libstdc++-compat package which will provide the missing library. this missing file is an older version of the standard c library (5) then the current standard (6), which many other apps still require.

if you want to get into p2p i'd suggest bittorrent or gtk-gnutella. they will both install very easily and run fast and natively.
