Question Errors faced while trying to install Fred-Client-2.2.3 on Ubuntu 8.04

Dear All

I apologize in advance if the following problems I am facing seem 'basic'.
I am a newbie to Unix systems and trying to learn and adapt.

I am trying to install fred-client-2.2.3 on Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron.

So I first downloaded the .tar.gz file from
http://fred.nic.cz/sources/fred-client-2.2.3.tar.gz

Then using the terminal I entered:

$ tar -xf Fred-Client-2.2.3.tar.gz

$ cd Fred-Client-2.2.3

$ sudo ./install.sh

the last command gave me an error:

sudo: ./install.sh: command not found

Using the instructions from
http://fred.nic.cz/attachment/wiki/d...tasfred-en.odt, i tried:

$ python ./setup.py install

This started working but then gave me an error:

creating /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/fred
error: could not create '/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/fred':
Permission denied

I have no idea what I should do. Would really appreciate some help.

I need to run the client to communicate with the EPP server of our local
registrar so as to be able to register domains.

Currently if i try running ./fred-client it returns an error:

FredClient 2.2.3
Type "help", "license" or "credits" for more information.

Using configuration from conf/fred-client.conf
Connecting to localhost, port 700 ...

ERROR: I cannot connect to the server localhost.

Connection socket.error: (111, 'Connection refused') (localhost:700)

Many thanks for your kind assistance in advance

not sure if you are still working on this problem
here are a few pointers

if permission is denied, try the command again using sudo
sudo python ./setup.py install

but first...
you might have to install other packages from the download page
the packages have letters A or D in front of them, lower down on the page it tells you how to install 'A' packages and 'D' packages

the link you provided also has a documents page that has more instructions for ubuntu 8.04
time to upgrade to ubuntu 9.04 or higher??
